Leona Maxine Champman

Leona Maxine Chapman, 72, of Dayton, Texas passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 7, 1944 in Canton, Illinois to Elbert and Mildred Myers Utt.

Leona was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting, baking, reading her Bible and prayer. Leona also was a TV game show junkie always watching, Jeopardy, Family Feud and Price is Right. She also enjoyed the classic series shows like Little House on the Prairie.

Leona was a member of the Old River Assembly of God where most defined her as the Prayer Warrior. She was the leader of the church’s prayer chain for many years. Leona who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Leona was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 47 years Joseph Wayne Chapman; her daughter Renee Ballard; and a brother Larry Utt. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son Jody Chapman of Dayton; her grandchildren Ryan Chapman and wife Kimberly of Mont Belvieu, Kassie Chapman and husband Levi of Dayton and Laiken Chapman of Baytown; her great-grandchildren Lane and Jacob Mitchell and Sophie Horton; her sister Doreen Curtis and husband Bill of California; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6pm until 8pm on Thursday, March 16, 2017 in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main Street, Dayton, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Friday, March 17, 2017 at Sterling Funeral Home. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Palms Memorial Park.
