Tribute

Sue McGowan, 69 of Anahuac, passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, after a lengthy cardiac battle. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac. Interment will follow in Anahuac Cemetery. A gathering of Sue’s family and friends will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Sterling Funeral Home. Services will be led by dear friend, Betty Webb. Pall- bearers include: Tyson McGowan, Cliff Thornton, Cole Thornton, Slade Thornton, Kale Thornton, and Steve Guyewski.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Monroe and Anna Guyewski, her brother, Fred Guyewski, and grandson, Dakota Carr. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Anahuac, and was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved spending time with her family, and she enjoyed coloring, sewing, and craft projects, reading, yard saling, and antiquing. She was especially proud of her 4 children and 9 grandchildren.

Sue is survived by her husband of 53 years, Rodney McGowan; Daughters: Crystal Zehnder and husband David of Ostrander, Ohio; Cassie Lege' and husband Ken of Lubbock, Texas; Teeya Thornton and husband Cliff of Hankamer, Texas; Son: Tyson McGowan & (Adriana) of Austin, Texas as well as grandchildren: Dillon, Demi, and Tristan Carr, Nicholas and Zachary Lege, Cole Thornton and wife Haley, Slade Thornton & (Allison), and Kale Thornton & (Taylor).

Although Sue officially only had 9 grandchildren, she was “MawMaw” to many others. She will be missed by these family members plus a host of other family and friends. Special thanks to the many doctors and nurses at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas for their amazing dedication to Sue’s care. Additional thanks go to the many home health care nurses who helped her remain at home as long as possible.

In lieu of flowers, Sue would ask that donations be made to the Dakota Carr Memorial Scholarship Fund, a fund created to honor her Grandson. Donations can be mailed to: 11514 Trafalgar Avenue, Lubbock, Texas 79424.
