Lois “Memaw” Marie Spurgeon, 87, a lifelong resident of the Liberty County, Texas area, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, surrounded by family at her home in Dayton. She was born on June 19, 1931, in Abilene, Texas, one of three children, to the late Stella and Jake Carter.

Lois was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She adored her children, grandchildren and her many “adopted” children from over the years. Lois enjoyed flying, traveling, sightseeing and meeting new people. She was a member of Greater Faith Apostolic Church in Dayton. A faithful and dedicated Christian who enjoyed attending church and fellowship with other members. Lois also loved eating out at different restaurants, Red Lobster being her favorite of them all.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her children Jimmy Dale Spurgeon, Thomas Spurgeon, Bruce Spurgeon, Buster, Jr. Spurgeon and Brenda Jordan; her granddaughter Ashley Molla; her loving husband of 49 years Buster, Sr. Spurgeon; and her brothers Uncle Chunky and Uncle Tommy Carter. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughters Rhonda Spurgeon and Sharlet Seaman; her fourteen grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Honoring the family by serving as pallbearers will be Brent Fregia, Jimmy Fregia, Kenny Fregia, Dylan Devers, Brad Tenney, and Doug Tenney. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Jordan and Roger Tenney.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6pm until 8pm on Monday, May 13, 2019, at Greater Faith Apostolic Church, 2500 FM 1960 in Dayton. A funeral service will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at Greater Faith, with Pastor Steve Vickery and Bishop Floyd Vickery officiating. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Palms Memorial Park Cemetery in Dayton.
