Hearts Love 27

Bavy Jean McKey

February 22, 1943 ~ August 21, 2019 (age 76) 76 Years Old

Tribute

Our beloved Honey went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 21, 2019. Honey was born on February 22, 1943, in Wallisville, Texas to Cecil and M.D. Oldham. She attended Anahuac High School and received a degree in respiratory therapy from Lamar University. Jean married the love of her life, Lonnie McKey on December 31, 1959, and they were inseparable for 53 years until he went to be with the Lord in 2012. Jean and Lonnie had three children, Lonnie “Dump” McKey, Kathy Harrell, and Tammy McKey.  Jean worked locally in the medical industry for 25 years for Dr. Andres and Bayside Community Hospital until she made a career change in 1986 and retired from Chambers County after 20 years of service.

Her true joy in life was spending time with her family. It didn’t really matter what the activity. Whether it was going to horse shows, raising animals, attending sporting events, vacationing, or watching her cowboys on Sunday, she always enjoyed it that much more because it was quality time spent with family and friends. Whatever her family was involved in, she was a part of, and wanted them to join her in any adventure she embarked on. Later in life, this love for family fueled a passion for genealogy. She spent countless hours researching family history and sharing her findings. Honey was a woman of many talents, but cooking sometimes proved to be a skill that she could not master. There are too many stories to tell here, but let’s just say that her world-famous Windex burgers are still raved about to this day.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lonnie McKey; granddaughter Britney McKey; and brother Arie George Oldham. She is survived by her son, Lonnie McKey and wife Konna; her daughters, Kathy Harrell and husband Robert and Tammy McKey. She will be greatly missed by her 5 grandchildren, Lonnie Moon and wife Alexis, Eric McKey and fiancé Ashley, Paige Sherman and husband Josh, Chase McKey and wife Erica and Tabitha Sheffield and husband Roy; along with her 11 great-grandchildren, Tyce, Leyton and Mattie Moon, Kenzi and Kutter McKey, Mailey and Jathan Sherman, Brody and Jax McKey, and Matthew Kneeppel and Kaitlynn Erwin. She is also survived by her brother, Cecil “Popeye” Oldham and wife Joleen.

Honoring the family by serving as pallbearers will be Eric McKey, Chase McKey, Lonnie Moon, Josh Sherman, Jathan Sherman, and Roy Sheffield.
