Tribute

Barbara Ann Gibson, 78, a lifelong resident of Liberty County, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2019, at her home in Dayton, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 8, 1941, in Liberty, Texas to the late Emmitt C. and Fannie Lee Wade Carlton.

Barbara was dedicated to serving the Lord and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Dayton. She would volunteer her time at the church and she especially enjoyed helping with the Fall Festival. Barbara was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Barbara pursued many interests, some of which included sewing, quilting, and crocheting. She even made her daughter’s matching outfits when they were small children. Barbara’s favorite hobby of all was spending quality time with her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her beloved chihuahua “Baby”. She was an avid fan of the Houston Astros and her all-time favorite players were Jeff Bagwell, Craig Biggio, and Jose Altuve.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 36 years Floyd A. Smith, Jr.; her son Robert Earl Smith; and her sisters Emmerline Joiner and Dottie Sheffield. She leaves behind to cherish her loving memory, her husband Clyde Gibson of Dayton; her daughters Rennetta Foster and husband Michael of Conroe and Tina Kennedy and husband Carl of Dayton; her daughter-in-law Cheri Smith of Dayton; her grandchildren Kelli, Kimberly, Matthew, Ashley, Aaron, Ryan, Topanga, Michael, Kevin, Travis, Chyann and Stephanee; her numerous great-grandchildren; her brother Robert Carlton and wife Karen of Dayton; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2pm until 4pm on Saturday, November 16, 2019, in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main Street in Dayton. A funeral service will be held at 1pm on Sunday, November 17, 2019, at the Sterling Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Blackburn officiating. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton.
