Virginia “Jennie” Nell Martin, 84, of Crosby, Texas passed away on Monday, May 29, 2017 in Kingwood, Texas. She was born on December 20, 1932 in Savannah, Tennessee to Roy and Nollie Faulkner Brown. Growing up a cotton farmer’s daughter, Jennie spent her younger years helping the family and picking cotton. She walked to school in Big Ivy, which was a one room schoolhouse shared by all the children of different grade levels until she went to High School.  She attended Central High School in Savannah and was in the music club and Future Homemakers of America. After graduation she worked in Memphis until she married.

Jennie was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years. Jennie enjoyed sewing and quilting, cooking, gardening and spending time with her family. She adored her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jennie was a member for more than 30 years of Lake Houston United Methodist Church in Huffman and was also a member of the Indian Shores Garden Club. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Jennie was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Shirley Anderson and Verlon Shelby; and her brother R.C. Brown. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children David Martin and wife Robin, James T. Martin and Cynthia Gilkeson; her grandchildren Carli Matthews and husband Sean, Pamela Pier and husband Sam and Casey Martin; her great-grandchildren Colt and Emily Matthews, a future great-grandson on the way; her sister Jessie Fisher; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held in Jennie’s honor at 2pm on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Lake Houston UMC, 23606 FM 2100 in Huffman, Texas with Pastor Frank Coats officiating.
