Steven Edward McNew, 56, of Dayton, Texas, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, October 21, 2017. He was born on September 28, 1961 in Camberley, Maryland to Jim and Jean Bean McNew. Steve graduated from C.E. King High School in Houston in 1979. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp.
Steve once owned a chicken farm, worked in the roofing business and was a railroad engineer. He loved to eat Chinese food and enjoyed going to the casino. Steve was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many; he will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers Jimbo McNew, Carl McNew and Frankie McNew. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Rhonda; his children Zachary Melton of Houston, Rachael McNew and fiancé Jesse Deaver of Baytown, Caitlin McNew and boyfriend Ty Montgomery of Baytown and Elizabeth McNew and boyfriend Austin Neenan of Dayton; his grandchildren Mikey Melton, Eli Melton and Emery Montgomery; his brothers Kevin McNew of Houston and Timmy McNew and wife Misty of Houston; and many other loving relatives and friends.
Honoring the family by serving as pallbearers will be Zachary Melton, Jesse Deaver, Ty Montgomery, Austin Neenan, Tyler Golden, Clayton Padgett, Clinton Padgett and Clifton Padgett. Honorary pallbearer will be Kevin McNew.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10am until noon on Monday, October 30, 2017 in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main Street, Dayton, Texas. Funeral services will begin at 12pm, with Bro Jeff Day officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2:30pm at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive in Houston.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made directly to the funeral home to help with the burial expenses.
