Michael E. “Mickey” Palmer, 78, of Hankamer, Texas, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2019, in Anahuac, Texas. He was born on July 23, 1940, in Houston, Texas to Meril Efford and Grace L. McKee Palmer. Mickey attended Aldine High School in 1957 and graduated from Conroe High School, Class of 1960. After high school, he began attending college at U of H until 1962, then graduated from Central Technical Institute in Kansas City, Missouri on April 11, 1968, with a degree in Electronic Technology.

Mickey worked as an electronic engineer in Broadcasting. He was a former video engineer at KPRC/ Channel 2 in Houston and owner of Lemmico, Inc. Mickey was contracted by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo as their Chief Engineer for many years. He received many achievements and accolades in his career. Some of his accomplishments included training from Sony Corporation on U-Matic Video Cassette and video communications, and RCA Broadcast technical training, as well as, various other broadcasts technical training. Mickey also created the first rodeo clown/bull rider helmet-cam for the HLSR and headed the first project to have pay-per-view live-streamed for HLSR; he created and built the first Houston mobile van for live news feeds for Channel 2 in Houston; he established the first international news feed for the NASA Apollo mission; and he filmed, edited and directed the first intro for First Baptist Church in Houston and was also instrumental in setting up their live broadcasting, as well as, for Second Baptist Church and North Main Baptist Church in Houston.

Mickey was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. He never met a stranger and was a friend to many. He had a love and a huge heart for children. Mickey loved performing magic tricks for the kids even though he was not the best magician. Mickey was a compulsive tinkerer who could fix anything put in front of him. He also loved to work on cars, lawnmowers and golf carts. There just wasn’t much the man couldn’t fix! He also liked to wade fish and was an avid golfer. Golfing was his passion in life and something he did up until his untimely passing.

Mickey was preceded in death by his mother Grace Jenkins; his father Meril Efford Palmer; his father L Ray Ferris; and his siblings Lucky Palmer, Herman Palmer, Elois McKnight, and Anita Ray. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 21 years Christine Sutton-Palmer of Hankamer; his daughters Dottie Wallace of Richmond, Tina Palmer-Guzman of Houston, Debbie Palmer-Kamman of Magnolia and Cynthia Murray of Magnolia; his grandchildren Craig Wallace, Ashley Salter, Jessica Whitehead, Kimberly Wallace, Stephen Murray, Benjamin Murray, Lauren Guzman Spence, Marissa Guzman, Gwen Carmichael Oswald, Ian Carmichael, Arlene Morrow and James Guzman; his seven great-grandchildren; his brother William Palmer of Conroe; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Mickey will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Honoring the family by serving as pallbearers will be Brett Palmer, Derek Parish, John Salter, James Davidson, Benjamin Murray, Kevin Martin, Robert Portwood, and Kyle Portwood. Honorary pallbearers will be Julio B. Miranda, Ed Davidson, Kenny Parish, Mike Boykin, Bill Moody, Leroy Shaffer, Jesse Portwood, and Billy Miranda.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5pm until 8pm on Friday, June 7, 2019, in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main Street in Anahuac. A funeral service will be held at 10AM on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Sterling Funeral Home, with Victor Beltran officiating. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Barrow Cemetery in Hankamer.
