Maurice "Mike" Joseph Latiolais

Maurice Joseph "Mike" Latiolais was born on July 8, 1926, and he passed from this world on October 1, 2019; he was 93 years old. He was born in Catahoula, Louisiana to Monique and Martin Latiolais and grew up in the Atchafalaya Basin. Mike proudly served in the U.S, Navy during World War II. He married Wilma "Cissy" Samford Latiolais in 1951; this October 21st would have been their 68th Wedding Anniversary.

Mike worked as a Dredge Boat Captain for Brown and Root for thirty plus years and retired in 1981 at 55 years of age. He and Cissy were members of Our Lady of Light Catholic Church Community since 1952.  Mike was well known for his cooking abilities and would always cook gumbo for fundraisers, raising more money for his church as an individual that anyone in the diocese at the time.

Mike was preceded in death by his parent; his brother Howard Latiolais; his sisters Hilda Buford and Gladys Buford; his daughter Cynthia Latiolais Jenkins; his nephews Ralph Buford, Herman Latiolais, and Harvey Latiolais; and his niece Wanda Walker. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Cissy Latiolais and daughter Sarah Cerrone. Grandchildren Jessica Jenkins, Michael Cerrone, and Barkley Jenkins. Great-grandchildren Miko Cerrone and Otis Nicolson. Extended family Ben, Hayat, Aziza, and Lachab Beaoui; Joe Rhame; and Mike and Adair Griffin. A host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Mike’s life was spent serving his family, his country, community, and church.

Friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at 9am on Monday, October 7, 2019, at Our Lady of Light Catholic Church, 2207 S. Main Street in Anahuac. A Mass of the Resurrection will begin at 10am with Fr. Stephan McCrate as the Celebrant. Rite of Committal will immediately follow in Anahuac Cemetery. A family meal will be held at Church Hall following the cemetery service.
