James William Rast, 59, of Dayton, Texas, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2019, in Baytown, Texas. He was born on October 21, 1959, in Millington, Tennessee to James Rast and Louise Painter. James graduated from J. Frank Dobie High School in 1979, where he was a choir member. He received his electrician certification from San Jacinto College in Pasadena. James worked as a high voltage technician for Air Liquide for 23 years before retiring in 2017.

James pursued many hobbies and was an avid sports fan. He loved the Houston Astros and Texans football. James was very talented at arts, crafts and woodworking. He and his wife Jackie shared a passion for crafting items and showing them off at local trade shows around the area. James was a master carpenter, who loved building and remodeling their house.

In his younger years, James was involved with the Boys Scouts of America. He was an active leader for a few years with Troop 64 in Dayton. James had a kind heart and liked helping his neighbors and anyone else when needed. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

James leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 25 years, Jackie Rast; his children Karen Rast of Lufkin, Angela Rast of Lufkin, Marianne Rast of Lufkin, Lance Rast of Dayton and Kaylah Rast of Leesville, LA; one grandchild; his father James Rast and wife Peggy of Waller; his mother Louise Painter of La Porte; his brothers Aaron Rast and wife Celina of Webster and Scott Rast of Koonze; his numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6pm until 8pm on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main Street in Dayton. A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at Sterling Funeral Home. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Palms Memorial Park Cemetery in Dayton.
