Tribute

Evelyn Case Toler, 96, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at home, surrounded by loving family. She was born on October 18, 1923 in Baytown, Texas to the late John L. and Ida Golemon Case. Evelyn attended Robert E. High School in Baytown and graduated from Overton High School in 1941.

 

Evelyn has been a lifelong residence of the Baytown, Highlands, and Crosby areas. She was a former member of Central Baptist Church in Baytown, where she had attended church since she was a young girl. Evelyn had worked as a clerk for Houston Belt and Terminal, retiring after 20 dedicated years of service with them. She was a hard worker, who loved helping others and always wanting the best for everyone.

 

Evelyn pursued many hobbies, some of which included her love of cooking, sewing and spending time with her family. She was also a talented artist who enjoyed drawing faces and clothing. Evelyn had a passion to be a fashion designer, which led to her talents in drawing. She was a world traveler, who loved cruising and spending time at the beach. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many, she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

 

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Harry W. and Roy Leonard Case; her sisters Georgia Pilgrim, Jessie Congleton, Josephine Bowen, Edna Duncan and Johnnie Daniel; her grandsons Charles and Steven Mueller; her great-grandsons Shane Mueller, Deven Garcia and Hayden Tanner; her sons-in-law Chuck Mueller and Edward Callaway; her nephews Robert Taylor, Jimmy and Floyd Glass, Wesley Daniel, Billy Duncan, Ken and Clay Rupp and Miles Milum. She leaves behind to cherish her loving memory, her sons Don Mackenzie and wife Karen and David Toler; her daughters Ida Mueller, Susan Callaway, Janet Smith and husband John and Deidre Litt and husband Terry; her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Harbor Hospice and to Marilyn Milum for all the care and help they provided for Evelyn.

 

Honoring the family by serving as pallbearers will be James Toler, Terry Litt, Brian Litt, Cory Litt, Christopher Lowe and Justin Gonzales.

 

Friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at 12pm on Saturday, November 23, 2019 in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main Street in Dayton. A funeral service will begin at 1pm at the funeral home with Dodie Osteen and John Smith officiating. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Palms Memorial Park in Dayton.
