Dovie Inez Clemmons, 92, of Anahuac, Texas passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2017. She was born on March 4, 1925 to Garland and I.V. Pinkard Clemmons in Ace, Texas. Dovie graduated from Big Sandy High School where she was an honor student, played basketball, a teacher’s assistant in Home Economics and was even voted most beautiful. She was a beautiful seamstress and had periodically worked for a dear friend at a local dress shop in Anahuac. Dovie was always a classy lady who was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and traveling all over the United States.
Dovie was a faithful Christian and a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Anahuac. She had many hobbies, some of which included gardening, sewing, cooking and golfing.
Dovie was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 66 years, Gerald E. Clemmons; one sister; three brothers; and a grandson, Bradley Turner. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Cherryl Bagwell and husband Kenneth of Conroe, Melba Wray and husband John of Spicewood, Loy Garvey and husband Frank of Anahuac and Doyle W. Clemmons and wife Melanie of Flower Mound; her grandchildren Jayson and Bryan Turner, John Michael Wray, Angela Christian, Kristina Hampton, Lesley Garvey, Crystal, Lacey, Philip and Grayson Clemmons; sixteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other loving relatives and friends.
Honoring the family by serving as pallbearers will be Jayson Turner, Bryan Turner, Brent Turner, Lesley Garvey, John Michael Wray, Philip Clemmons and Grayson Clemmons.
Friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at 10:30am on Saturday, November 4, 2017 in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main Street, Anahuac, Texas. Funeral service will follow at 11:30am. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Anahuac Cemetery.
