Dorothy Kilgore

October 18, 1926 ~ April 27, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old


Dorothy Kilgore went to be with the Lord on April 27, 2017. She was born in Jennings, Louisiana in 1926 to Alfred Ortego and Eloise Courts. Dorothy went to school and graduated from Vinton High School. When she was 18, she married Willie Kilgore and they moved to Mont Belvieu, Texas to his family home. They had two boys Bill and Joe.

Dorothy and Willie were very active in the community. They were great dancers and enjoyed going dancing and playing cards with friends. In 1974, Willie died suddenly and her life changed forever.

Through the years, Dorothy worked at JC Penney’s in Baytown, Barbers Hill Independent School District and took a medical retirement from Houston Oil and Mineral in Houston, Texas. After retirement, she started doing beautiful cross stitch and quilts. Dorothy quilted beautiful bedspreads for her sons and grandchildren. She lived in Mont Belvieu until her health required her to move to assisted living. From there she lived her final years at St James Nursing Facility.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Willie Kilgore; her father, Alfred Ortego; her mother, Eloise Courts of Vinton, Louisiana; her sister, Lucille Broussard of Lake Arthur, Louisiana; and her brother, Elroy Ortego of Alta Loma, Texas. Dorothy is survived by her sister, Hilda Manuel of Jacksonville, Florida; her son Bill and wife Lynda Kilgore of Baytown, Texas; her grandson Billy and wife Julie Kilgore of Baytown, Texas; her great-granddaughters Presley and Margo Kilgore of Baytown, Texas; her son Joe and wife Claudia Kilgore of Lakeway, Texas; her grandson Sean and wife Tiffani Kilgore; and her great-grandson William Henry Kilgore; granddaughter Heather and husband Eddie Valigura of Texas City, Texas; and great-grandsons Austin and Evan Valigura of Texas City, Texas; her granddaughter Lauren and husband Marty Alvarado of San Antonio Texas; and her great-grandsons Trey and Silas Alvarado of San Antonio, Texas.
