Danny Louis Shimek, 64, lifelong resident of Crosby, Texas passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 in Beaumont, Texas. He was born on December 26, 1952 in Dayton, Texas to Arnold and Stazie Shimek. Danny attended Crosby High School and was a custom home builder/commercial construction. He was a generous soul who loved nothing more than helping others.
Danny was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many. Although he could be ornery, stubborn and an agitator of sorts, he was a very smart man with a big heart and good intentions. Danny loved squirrels and even had them as pets, caring for them as family. During Hurricane Rita, he managed to save a squirrel he called Twister.
Danny was an enthusiast of the outdoors. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, cooking, barbequing and gambling on his slot machines. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Danny was a lifetime committee member for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo on the calf scramble committee. He loved the rodeo and never missed the NFR in Las Vegas.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents; and numerous aunts and uncles. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 20 years Cheryl Grant Shimek of Crosby; his sons Bo Shimek of Austin and Devin Shimek of Crosby; his grandson Bode Shimek; his brothers Ronnie Shimek and wife Theresa of Batson, Albert Shimek of Crosby and Joe Shimek and wife Teresa of Dayton; his nieces Linda, Cindy, Khristy, Stacey and Amanda; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6pm until 8pm on Thursday, June 29, 2017 in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main Street, Dayton, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Friday, June 30, 2017 at Sterling Funeral Home with Rev Larry Koslovsky officiating. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton.
Honoring the family by serving as pallbearers will be Dixon Davis, Royce Doskocil, Tannie Gillespie, Don Martin, Larry Martin, Jimmy Peska, Ben Peska and Tobe Prescott. Honorary pallbearers are Charlie Westbrook and Arthur Lee Prasek.
