Daniel “Butch” Lee Pennington, 78, of Goodrich, Texas, passed away on Friday, March 30, 2018, in Lufkin, Texas. He was born on July 30, 1939, in Baytown, Texas to Curtis and Margaret Oates Pennington. Butch graduated in 1957 from Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown. For many years he was self-employed and worked as a road boring contractor. For the past 21 years, he has enjoyed working his high school concession stands for Pasadena, Montgomery, and Conroe ISD.
In 1996, Butch and his wife Maxine moved to Goodrich from Beach City. He enjoyed nothing more than garage sales and working his concessions. Butch was a jack of all trades who had worked in various capacities throughout his life. He was very outgoing, friendly and enjoyed socializing. Butch loved people, never met a stranger and people were always drawn to him.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 45 years Maxine Mills Pennington of Goodrich; his children Penny Pennington of Sugar Land, Charles Robert Pennington of Highlands, Pam Dunn of Crosby, Paula Pennington of Crosby, Patty Barfield and husband Jason of Montgomery; his grandchildren Brandon Ashwood, Zaerik Dunn, Doran Pennington, Devin Pennington, Kenna Barfield and Ryan Barfield; his great-grandchildren Ellis Ann Ashwood, Betsy Ashwood and Mimi Ashwood; his siblings Gene Pennington and wife Mary, Robert Pennington and wife Sandy, Betty Coker, Peggy Foster and husband Joel; his numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6pm until 8pm on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main Street in Dayton. Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at Sterling Funeral Home, with Jake Porter officiating. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton.
