Tribute

Charles Ollie Fortner, 85, of Hankamer, Texas, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the Mont Belvieu Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. He was born on May 16, 1937, in Westbrook, Texas to the late Hazel Fortner and Ollie A. Fortner.

Charles graduated from Anahuac High School, with the class of 1953. He worked for NASA, Mission Control Center in Houston Texas and received recognition of the service on October 11, 1968, for participating in the support of the Apollo 7, first manned Apollo mission featuring live spacecraft television. He worked for GTE for 30+ years before retiring.

Charles was a member of the Hankamer Volunteer Fire Department for 42 years.

Charles enjoyed living his life to the fullest. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Charles was preceded in death by his father Ollie Fortner; his mother Hazel Fortner; his wife Johanna “Patsy” Fortner; and sister Ann Weaver. He leaves behind to cherish his loving memory, his daughters Donna Jo Capps and husband Charles Chuck”, and Loretta Pringle and husband Danny; grandsons Charles “Charlie” Capps and wife Lindsey, and Kyle Pringle and wife Tara; great-grandsons Caden Capps and Carter Capps, Lane Pringle and Tate Pringle; niece Deann Johnson; nephews Mike Weaver and Paul Weaver; and numerous friends.

Friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at 10am, on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main Street in Anahuac. A service will be begin at 11am, with Jesse Romaine Sherman, II, officiating. A private committal will take place in Anahuac Cemetery.
