Betty Jean Carlile

October 13, 1932 ~ August 30, 2017 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Betty Jean Carlile passed away on August 30, 2017 at the age of 84, uniting her once again with her husband, son, and 9 siblings.

Betty was born in Frankston, Texas on October 13, 1932. The daughter of a local minister, Betty grew up in a large, God-loving family, with 7 brothers and 2 sisters. The Christian principles she learned at a young age stayed with her throughout her entire life.

After graduating from high school in 1950, she moved to Mont Belvieu where she met her husband, Virgil Carlile. When she married Virgil, she welcomed into her heart, a stepson, Mike, and a stepdaughter, Linda. Betty enjoyed a very close and special relationship with both Mike and Linda and she considered herself blessed to have them in her life.

While Betty loved her job as a switchboard operator, retiring from General Telephone after 30 years of service, the accomplishment she was most proud of was being the mother to her two sons Chris and Keith – a job that was far from easy at times! Blessed with a gentle temperament, those who knew her regarded her as an extremely patient and loving parent who consistently put Chris and Keith first. In true Christ-like fashion, there was nothing that either son could do that she would not forgive. Her love for her sons truly knew no bounds.

Betty was a strong supporter of the Barbers Hill community, whether cheering at sporting events or volunteering at the First United Methodist Church, where she was a long-time member.

Betty’s faith in the Lord never wavered, even after losing her husband and son in tragic accidents. She set an example to her family and others in the strength of her faith as well as in her positive outlook. She had the well-earned reputation of being a Godly woman and was known throughout the community for her giving nature.

Betty considered her grandchildren as gifts from God. She loved being “Granny” to Blake Carlile, Ashleigh Carlile Clack, Seth Carlile, Jaxson Carlile, Jennifer Cassano Skobel, Tommy Cassano, Josh Cassano, and numerous great-grandchildren. In addition to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she is survived by her son, Keith Carlile of Mont Belvieu, stepdaughter Linda Carlile Cassano of Dickinson, stepson Mike Carlile of Dickinson and brother Jack Webb of Richardson.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Virgil, her son Chris, her brothers Joseph York Webb, William Martin Webb, Donald Leon Webb, Cecil Lloyd Webb, Robert Roland Webb, Jerry Webb, and her sisters Violet Aurora Webb Pond and Rosa Nell Webb Jenkins.

Given the difficulties facing the community as a result of Hurricane Harvey, the family has chosen to delay a memorial service until mid-October. Friends and family are encouraged to check the Sterling Funeral Home website (www.sterlingfuneralhome.com) for more details about the service as they become available.
