Reuben “David” Barrow, 79, affectionately known as Paw Paw, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024, in Baytown, Texas, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born on October 4, 1944, in Hankamer, Texas, to the late George Curtis and Katherine Blackwell Barrow, David led a life defined by hard work, generosity, and loyalty.

From a young age, David immersed himself in ranching, logging, and farming, becoming a fixture in the Hankamer community. Known for his ability to build anything and his willingness to put others first, he was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. David’s expertise in water wells, including hand-dug wells, was unmatched, reflecting his deep connection to the land and its resources.

David’s passion for hay bailing and his management of the Boyt Ranch in Devers showcased his dedication and work ethic. He was described as strong, faithful, and occasionally grouchy, yet his love for mules, gardening, and hard work never wavered. He had an exceptional talent for giving everyone their unique nickname, a testament to his jovial nature and ability to connect with others.

David was preceded in death by his parents; son David Nicholas “Nick” Barrow; and his siblings, Infant Caroline Barrow, Marilyn Jean “Sissy” Barrow, Linda Lou Barrow Leist, Kathryn Maxine Abraham, Carol Sue Barrow Bradley, Clarence “Allen” Barrow, and George Curtis “Buddy” Barrow, Jr.; and niece Patty Jean Abraham.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. and is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Pat Sutton Barrow; his grandchildren Madi Nickole Barrow and fiancé Colby Johnson, and Hunter Brown; and his great-grandchildren Lennyn Greyce and Murphie Grey Jenkins, Hattie Pete Johnson affectionately known as “Doodles” and “Dumpling”, and Bryndle Rose Brown.

Additionally, David is survived by numerous nieces and nephews Chris Barrow and wife Darla, Dean Barrow and wife Cara, Ronald Wayne Ashworth and wife Pat, Matt Sutton and wife Heather, Garrett Ray Hill and wife Alisha, Jamie Lynn Drohan and husband Brian, Kim Barrow Noble and husband Jeff, Kevin Rhodes and wife Kim, Kenya Barrow Melton and husband Kyle, Kathy Jamar and husband Tony, Jimmy Abraham and wife Evelyn, and Vicky Abraham; numerous great-nieces, and great-nephews, along with a host of other relatives and friends. His loyal canine companion, Keanan Demi, who accompanied him everywhere in life, also mourns his passing.

Friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at 11 AM on Friday, April 12, 2024, in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac. A funeral service, officiated by Cris Stephenson, will follow at 12 PM. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Barrow Cemetery in Hankamer.

Honoring the family by serving as pallbearers will be Dean Barrow, Chris Barrow, Ronald Wayne Ashworth, Garrett Ray Hill, Matt Sutton, Cade Barrow, Halley Moor, Jr., Lloyd Holder, Greg Beasley, Chris Beasley, and Hunter Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Cully Smith, David Hargraves, Cade Witherspoon, Kyle Witherspoon, Lane Barrow, Dwain Sutton, Colby Johnson, Lance “Cigar: Barnett, Johnny Cline, Gary Herman, and Halley Moor, Sr.

David will be fondly remembered as a pillar of strength in his community, profoundly impacting all who had the privilege of knowing him.
