Patricia Avera Dyer 85, of Cove, Texas, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2018 at her home surrounded by loving family. A daughter of James Avera and wife Gladys Icet, she was born March 19, 1932. She was a great granddaughter of pioneer Cove shipbuilders and Confederate blockade runner, Capt. William Icet.

Mrs. Dyer attended Barbers Hill school and Baylor University. She was a member of Old River Baptist Church, where she taught a ladies’ class for thirty years. Mrs. Dyer was an administrator for Chambers County Programs of The Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation for over 20 years.

Mrs. Dyer was proceeded in death by her husband, Stanley Dyer; and son, Stanley Powell Dyer. Survivors include daughter, Dawn Diane Dyer of Cove; sister Sylvia Robbins of Houston; niece Cindy Robbins of Houston; granddaughters Alisa Dyer and sons Stanley and Adrian of Michigan and Jennifer Dyer of New York City.

Friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at 1pm on Saturday, January 27, 2018 in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main Street in Dayton. Funeral services will be held at 2pm following the visitation with Bro Danny Biddy officiating. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Palms Memorial Park Cemetery in Dayton.
