Matilda CormierFebruary 18, 1927 ~ August 24, 2017 (age 90)
Matilda Cormier, 90, of Anahuac, Texas, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2017 in her home, surrounded by family. She was born on February 18, 1927 in Crowley, Louisiana to Moreale and Clovina Pommier. Formerly of Baytown, Matilda had been a resident of Anahuac for the past 31 years.
Matilda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. She enjoyed cooking, cleaning and flower gardening. Matilda was best at just being a mom. She and her husband J.W. were always hospitable and enjoyed nothing more than cooking and having people over to eat.
Matilda was a member of the White Park Church of Christ in Anahuac.
Matilda was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 65 years J.W. Cormier; her sons Willis and Lee Cormier; and son-in-laws Milton Kilough, Don R. Johnson, Sr. and Henry Dodd; daughter-in-law Shirley Cormier. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons Houston Cormier, Whitney Cormier, Jr. and wife Doris and Gerald Cormier and dear friend Yvette; her daughters Alice Dodd, Lois Johnson, and Geraldine Kilough; her sister Mary Lawrence; her brother Clovis Pommier; her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and numerous other loving family members and friends.
Honoring the family by serving as pallbearers will be Willis Lee Cormier, Don R. Johnson, Jr., Chris Cormier, Keith Cormier and Andrew Dunagan.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5pm until 8pm on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main Street, Anahuac, Texas. A funeral service will be held at 10am on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Sterling Funeral Home. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Anahuac Cemetery.
