Mary Jane Gilliam

Mary Jane Ogea Gilliam, 88, of Wallisville, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 in Tomball, Texas. She was born on May 31, 1929 in Ged, Louisiana to Guy and Lina Hanks Dow.

Mary was a resident of the Wallisville area since 1947 and was a former member of Eminence Baptist Church. She was a very strong, independent woman who was set in her ways. One of Mary’s hobbies was to crochet.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her former spouses John Wedley Ogea and Melvin “Sonny” Gilliam; and her sisters Mae, Eva, Doris, Ethel and Bertha. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving son John Ogea and wife Billie of Tomball; her granddaughter Heather Hanna and husband Charles of Spring; her great-grandchildren Conor and Hayden Hanna; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Friends are invited to visit with the family starting at 1:30pm on Friday, September 15, 2017 in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main Street, Anahuac, Texas. A funeral service will begin following the visitation at 3pm, with Rev Kenn Munn officiating. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Anahuac Cemetery.
