John Howard Parish, Jr.

John Howard Parish, Jr., 74, of Anahuac, Texas, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2017 in Baytown, Texas. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many, he was born on August 25, 1942 in Sugar Land, Texas to John Howard Parish, Sr. and Carolyn Grimm Parish. John graduated from Anahuac High School in 1960. After graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and later worked for many years with the Federal Government as a flight engineer instructor for the USAF on C-130 gunships. John eventually opened J and L Drive-In Grocery in Anahuac where he and his family worked for 25+ years in the business. He was very meticulous about his yard and the store. John could always be found at the store working and playing pranks on many of his customers.

John was a gentle, kind and compassionate man, always putting his family first. He had numerous hobbies in his lifetime, some of which included hunting and fishing, traveling, going to the casinos and fixing things. John’s favorite of them all though was spending time with family and attending his grandchildren’s activities. He also served several years on the AISD School Board.

John was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 48 years Linda Heard Parish of Anahuac; his daughters Cherie Parish Sambrano and husband Troy of League City and Ashli Bertrand and husband Lane of Anahuac; his grandchildren Cameron, Sydney and Brady Bertrand and Cayden and Kenna Sambrano; his sister Carol Diane Ford and husband Craig of Spring; his brothers Ronald Parish and wife Kayla of Montgomery and Kenney Parish and wife Cindi of Anahuac; his sisters-in-law Eugenia Heard of Anahuac, Anne Heard of Houston and Marie Heard of Houston;  his brothers-in-law Jim Heard and wife Susan of Virginia, John Heard and wife Barbara of Missouri and Stephen Heard and wife Maureen of Seattle; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6pm until 8pm on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main Street, Anahuac, Texas. A funeral service will be held at 10am on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Anahuac, 405 Magnolia Avenue South, Anahuac, Texas. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Anahuac Cemetery.
