DAYTON – Ray Melvin Gordon, 74, of Dayton, passed away Friday, February 19, 2010. Ray was born on June 20, 1935 in McCollensburg, Pennsylvania to the late Melvin and Nettie (Ketzel) Gordon. Ray could be described as a loving and devoted Dad and Pappy who was a proud American, believing strongly in the red, white and blue. He loved working with wood and made various items over the years, some of which included hat racks, cannons, shelves and bird houses. Ray could also be known as a Willie Nelson fan who liked to ‘raise some hell’ from time to time. He will be missed by those who loved and knew him.
Also preceding Ray in death was his son, John Howard Gordon.
Left behind to cherish his memory are sons, Ray Gordon, Jr. of Dayton, Charlie Gordon and wife, Lynn of Livingston, Buck Gordon and wife, Charlotte of Dayton, and Robert Carbaugh and wife, Linda of Daisetta; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles, Glenn and George Gordon, all of Hagerstown, Maryland; sisters, Fannie Mae Rouzer and Helen Carpenter, both of Hagerstown, Maryland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Final arrangements for Ray were entrusted to Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N Main St. Dayton, Texas 77535, (936)258-2678. Condolences for Ray’s family may be left online at www.sterlingfuneralhome.com.
